Mangaluru : Some forces were trying to finish him off politically but their efforts would come to naught said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday.
He was speaking at a meeting of party workers while campaigning for the coalition candidate Pramod Madhwaraj at Karkala in Udupi district.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the plan to finish the JD(S) had been laid three months ago. He was dependent on the JD(S) workers to see that his son and JD(S) candidate for Mandya seat, Nikhil, wins in the Lok Sabha elections.
The politics in Mandya had started the day the Congress leader and actor, M.H. Ambareesh passed away.
“They are doing everything possible to see Nikhil is defeated and to finish me off politically,” he said.
“The district of Mandya is our heart. We know the pulse of Mandya. Whoever does any kind of drama there will not succeed,” he said. Mr. Kumaraswamy said that he will ensure that the coalition candidate for Mysuru seat did not face problems. He would make sure that there was no confusion with regard to all 28 candidates of the coalition partners in the State. “I have taken the responsibility to ensure the victory of all these candidates,” he said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was seeking votes only in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP was portraying as if the protection of the country was totally dependent on Mr. Modi, he said.
“Did not the former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Atal Behari Vajpayee protect the country? It is Lal Bahadur Shastri who gave the slogan Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan. It is wrong to use to army to score political points,” he said.
Addressing press persons at the Congress Bhavan in Udupi, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that he had never stated that he had advance information of the Pulwama terrorist attack incident.
But a section of the media had misquoted him. He had said that two years ago, a retired military officer had told him that there would be a clash with Pakistan close to the parliamentary elections, he said.
