Mangalore: The Dakshin Railway Employee’s Union in association with CITU staged Mass Satyagraha at the premises of Mangalore Central Railway Station on Tuesday, May 31.
Speaking on the occasion, P V Lakshman, Dakshin Railway Employee’s Union secretary said that the union has staged dharna to urge the central government to take action on the miserable condition of Railway Quarters. Appoint staff in SE/ W/ O/ MAQ according to necessities.
He also said that the government must clean the all open and covered drainages before rainy season, the repair must be done on damaged IC near the second block, damage and condemned Quarters should be reconstructed.
We have organized a dharna more than three times, but no measures have been taken so far. Around 45 employees from mechanical, engineering, traffic, signal and other department of the railway staged the dharna.
Assistant general secretary K Haridas, said that the dharna is staged against the anti labour policies of the railways. The number of train and speed is increasing, there are 2.5 lakhs vacancies in the department all over the country and the central government is not even trying to fulfill it. At present the existing employees are suffering a lot due to ever work of the vacancies also.
The central government is trying to cut down the benefits of the employees and are facing the pathetic condition without any maintenance, protection and other facilities, he informed.
The other demands are new Quarters to be constructed according to the number of employees working, illegible activists in the condemned Railway Quarters to be stopped, the maintenance work of the road HYU/ MAQ to Railway Police Station, grills should be provided to all type I quarters quickly, provide taps, water tank and floor marble in the all Quarters, action should to be taken to eradicate mosquito in the Railway colony, rest room should be provided to all department.
