Mangalore: An AIDS Prevention Day was organised by DK dt, Health and Family Welfare deptt, at the Roshni Nilaya, Kankanady today to create public awareness on the consequences of AIDS disease in society. The National Service Scheme of DK dt. AIDS Prevention unit in city, Mangalore University’s Red Ribbon Clubs and school of social work in Valencia joined hands in this connection.
District Health officer, Dr. O.R. Srirangappa inaugurated the event. In his address, he stated that there was no need to fear HIV but a better understanding of the disease is necessary.
He asked the youngsters to collect more information on HIV and AIDS to protect themselves and the society from the ailments.
Principal Dr. Jacinta D’souza of Roshni Nilaya presided over the programme on AIDS. Dr. Ashok from the criminology deptt of Roshni Nilaya was the Chief Guest.
A question and Answers programme was conducted by Dr. Rathi Devi, KMC Professor in Mangalore, on HIV/AIDS.
