Mumbai: India has won the World Cup Cricket (ODI) Cup in 2011 and T-20 world tournament a few years earlier, on the inaugural, yet the cricketers seem to need foreign coaches to teach cricket to celebrities like Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Kohli, Raina, Dhoni, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Zaheer and Chawla, besides others in their various grades of earning Rs.20 to 50 lakhs a year.
Accordingly Gary Kirsten, an opener of South Africa, Greg Chapel before him from Australia, were brought in. And now, Duncan Fletcher (62) from Zimbabwe! is coming into train the BCCI’s Indian team.
Zimbabwe is not a world class team, yet the Zimbabwean has made the grade as a matter of utter surprise to cricket observers, enthusiasts and players, thanks to the Working Committee of BCCI.
Fletcher, sounding British, had coached England from 1999 to 2007, and Andy Flower (of Zimbabwe) had shown interest in Team India.
The post is high profile, though for 2 years. Fletcher, however may not join the Indian team going to West Indies shortly, says N.Srinivasan, BCCI Secretary.
