Mangalore, April 26: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) jointly staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on April 26, demanding the district administration to fulfill various demands of the farmers.
Addressing the protestors, KPRS District President K R Shriyan said, one of the major demands of the protesters is the disposing of all housing site related pending application forms. As many as 7,000 applications through DYFI have been submitted by the public seeking for the site and nearly 4,000 application forms have been submitted through KPRS.
He also said that, If the district administration readily gives hundreds of acres of land to the builders and industrialists, they why can’t they allot the land to the poor farmers, he asked.
The protesters will urge the administration to provide title deeds to all the poor landless families.
Muneer Katipalla, president of DYFI said that, there are 48,000 landless families and 17,000 families without title deeds in the district.
The State government in its election manifesto had announced of providing houses to two lakh homeless families in the State. But the government has not even provided homes to the flood victims, he alleged.
Various demands such as the implementation of House Rent Regulation Act, formation of taluk-wise Akrama Sakrama Darkhastu Committee, protecting the Kumki land rights of the farmers and others were put forth on the occasion.
Large number of farmers and members of DYFI participated in the protest rally held from Town Hall to DC Office.
Leaders like Ashok Shetty, Mahabala Shetty, Krishnappa, Sukanya, Comrade Vasudev, Narayan Shetty and other were present.
