19.06.10 Mangalore : The member of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) stated that the poor quality rice used to served the midday meal at Government Model Higher Primary School at Amla Mogaru comprised of worms and prevented to prepare it on June 18, Friday.
The DYFI unit head of Amla Mogaru Muhammad Shareef, said that the team found worms in the in the water being boiled for cooking rice, during thier visit on Friday at 10.20 am.
Later they interrupted the cooking and made to cook in the fresh water drawn from a well on the premises of former president of the local gram panchayat Sanjiv Shetty.
The children had on also complained of being serving food cooked with rice containing small black insects. A. Shankar, Headmaster of the school said that he had not been informed about the insects found in the rice on Thursday. But he ensured that the rice was not used on Friday. He said that the stock would be replaced.
The school had a stock of eight bags of quality boiled rice, hence it was used till new stock arrive. Sudesh Derebail, Medical Officer of the primary health centre in the village said that during previous inspections and laboratory tests, water had been found fit for drinking.
C. Chame Gowda, Deputy Director of Public Instruction and Manjula, Education Officer said that they were unaware of the incident, but ensured to take action against this.
