Mangalore : The members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest in front of the DC office on October 29 demanding more government hospitals in the district.
Addressing the protesters, President of the Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations Narendra Nayak said that common people are suffering without being able to bear the expenses for medical treatment in private hospitals due charge very high.
He also said that, a person who enters into any private hospital, are made to undergo various medical tests and people has to suffer when they have to pay the bill.
Hence Private hospitals should display the price list for every test, bed charges and others charges so that people will be aware of the expenses for treatment they have to bare.
Most of the times when the people are not able to settle the bill are prevented from getting discharged from the hospital. The hospital authorities also fail to release the body to the party unless payment is done. Hence hospitals must follow uniformity in the billing system and approval by the party related to the expenses should be made mandatory.
District president Santhosh Bajal said that, the district administration to intervene in this matter and fix the rates and get hospitals to comply with the rules and regulations. Condition and service of the primary health centers and community hospitals is very poor. Even the district government hospital lacks proper facilities and the emergency ward has a very poor facility which is a curse to the poor. State Health minister U T Khader had assured to solve the problems of poor and improve medical facilities in government hospitals but he has failed to keep his promise.
