Mangaluru: The Democratic Youth Federation of India demands for immediate transfer of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan, holding him directly responsible for the Mangaluru prison double murder case that occurred on Monday morning.
Two undertrials- Madoor Isubu, an aide of Chota Shakeel and his comrade Ganesh Shetty, a sharp-shooter were killed using lethal weapons by some inmates of the jail.
Addressing in a protest, DYFI District President Dayananda Shetty said that law and order situation in the district has collapsed and Mangaluru city is undoubtedly being ruled by the underworld elements due to passiveness of the police.
Attacking the police department and the home department, Shetty said that the incidents of murder, attempt to murder and communal violence have shot up after S Murugan took charge as the police commissioner of the city.
DYFI Vice-President Imthiyaz demanding for appointment of a stern and efficient Commissioner said that the incumbent Commissioner has said that the murder weapon could have been thrown into the jail from outside, which is rather ridiculous.
“There are several innocents who have been put behind bars in false cases. Even their lives are under threat,” he opined.
