Mangalore : The members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will organize a rally from Unity hospital to DC’s office on Wednesday, October 29 at 10am to oppose the privatization in the health care sector.
Speaking at a press meet on Saturday, DYFI state-president Muneer Katipalla, said that private institution like Kanachur academy, Mangalore has easily got cabinet’s approval and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science’s recommendation to start medical college although they do not have thier own hospital and proper infrastructure required.
He also said that government owned Wenlock Hospital is serving the society for decades but still struggling to have its own medical college. But the political influence is still continuing its agreement with Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore.
Muneer said that the Health sector must work to provide service and not profits and such kind of measures to privatize it is profit-oriented and not intended to help the poor.
He also said that government-owned hospitals lack proper facilities and shortage of doctors which make the sector poor.
He also urged Health minister U.T Khader remove the shortage of doctors and ‘D’ grade staff at the district hospital and primary health care centres by filling up the vacancies.
