Subrahmanya : Devotees took part in Ede Snana — a ritual of rolling over the prasadam offered to the presiding deity in Kukke Subrahmanya temple here on Tuesday afternoon.
This ritual has been proposed as an alternative to Made Snana, a ritual of rolling over food eaten by Brahmins, which has been stayed by the Supreme Court. This will be performed during the three days starting from Tuesday.
Devotees undertaking the ritual have come from different parts of the State. They were called inside the temple where the prasadam was offered to the presiding deity. The prasadam was first offered to cows. After the cows ate a portion of the prasadam, devotees rolled over it.
Activists have been opposing Made Snana and Ede Snana on the ground that these practices were regressive and inhuman. They had asked the State Government to ban these two practices.
Elaborate security arrangements were made to prevent any distruption of rituals.
