Mangaluru: An extensive reorientation of the education system and correct enforcement of laws are necessary to effectively fight corruption, said Swami Ekagamyananda, convenor of Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Mangaluru campaign, here on Nov 2, Friday.
Speaking at a Vigilance Awareness Week programme organised by Indian Oil Corporation in association with a popular daily at the P. Dayananda Pai-Satish Pai Government First Grade College, the swamy said it was important for every student to study courses that he or she was interested in.
At present, he said, students are forced to study particular courses, which don’t prepare them to face the challenges of the globalised world. A revamp of the education system is necessary to make help younger generation contribute to the country’s development, he said.
The Swamiji said though the laws in the country were well in keeping with needs, they were ineffective because of improper enforcement. The authorities should properly implement the rules and regulations related to issues such as corruption, traffic and waste disposal, he said.
Anup Kushwah, Chief Divisional Manager (Retail Sales), Indian Oil Corporation, said Vigilance Awareness Week was being observed to make people realise the dangers of corruption and the need to be vigilant.
