Manipal : Eminent veteran journalist and former chairman of Prasar Bharati, Madhav Vittal Kamath, popularly known as MV Kamath at the age of 93, breathed his last followed by brief illness at KMC Hospital at Manipal on October 9, Thursday morning.
Hailing from Udupi, MV Kamath did his his B.Sc in Physics and Chemistry and worked in the field of chemistry for some time before stepping into the field of journalism.
Kamath began his journalism career with ‘The Sunday Times(India)’ in 1967 and worked for two years, later he joined Times of India as its Washington Correspondent in 1969. He also served as the Editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India.
He was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award in 2004 in recognition of his distinguished services to the field of journalism and in 2007 he became the received of Honorary Doctorate from Mangalore University.
Kamath also served as the Honorary President and Honorary Director of Manipal Institute of Communications and an active Member of the Executive Committee of MAHE Deemed University.
He has the achievement of authoring around 40 books on varied topics.
