Mangaluru : Eighteen-year-old Manoj and 26-year-old Revati, both endosulfan victims with more than 60% disability, have cleared the SSLC examination by securing 64% and 44% marks respectively.
Manoj and Revati are among the endosulfan victims undergoing training at a day-care centre at Koila in Puttur, which is among the two such centres for endosulfan victims in Dakshina Kannada.
The two, who are students of Government High School in Uppinangady, were given exemption by the Department of Public Instruction this year and allowed to write the exam at Ramakunjeshwara School at Ramakunja, close to their day-care centre. The department had granted similar exemption to two endosulfan victims to write SSLC exam in 2018.
Mr. Manoj, son of Bhaskar and Revati, who are both labourers, wrote the exam with the help of scribe Mayur, while Ms. Revati, daughter of labourers Babu Mogera and Leela, wrote the exam with the help of scribe Likita.
Pramila Rao, coordinator of endosulfan day care centres at Koila and Kokkada, said Manoj intends to take a job in the government and take care of his parents and his two sisters. Revati too wants a job to support her parents.
The two want to pursue their pre-university course in Arts.
