New Delhi: The much hated drug Endosulphan, used as a pesticide by farmers and had brought out deaths and disease in several states has been banned at least by Supreme Court, previously for 8 weeks or 2 months. The drug was here for 30 years as a disease spreading poisonous drug, and no Indian Govt., had dare to throw it out. But the SCI has to be congratulated now for a total ban imposed on its storage and use in rural areas for at least 8 weeks.
The Apex Court declared that it did not want to see a single child suffer snd die because of the dangerous Endosulphan, banned in America long ago. Man’s life is too precious to be lost, to use Endosulphan, the SCI bench decided. In Kerala where it was extensively used, the effects were determined to genealogy of families and raised many kinds of health problems.
The CJI S.H Kapadia and two other ruled that whatever precautionary steps were prescribed against the dangerous drug Endosulphan its production and usage, must be applied to rein in the anti-social drug in Kerala, immediately. The adverse effects prevalent and preventive steps needed were entrusted to two high level medical research and action committees formed by the Apex Court.
Appeals had been made to the SCI from various states to ban Endosulphan as UPA (Congress) govt., at the Centre and some states were going soft on the elimination process.
