Bangalore: Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje confirmed that she had received some threatening letters of late, and would discuss the issue with the Chief Minister, to register a police complaint finally, without fear and cowtowing to such threats on one’s life.
She referred to certain widespread malpractices in the distribution of cooking gas (LPG) cylinders, causing a loss of Rs100 to 150 crores to the state treasury. It was a priority action that we have to undertake, without bending before LPG mafia forces in state, she said. Shobha is also connected with Food and Civil Supplies, so she confronts a mafia.
Shobha further explained that someone recently called her up to say that the govt. restrictions on available LPG cylinders had caused him a big loss, and if situation continued, what happened to additional DC Sonawane in Maharashtra, could happen to her in Bangalore. She asked him to go ahead with his plans. She was not afraid of such gangsters. She added that cooking gas was selling at twice the normal rate as commercial gas for years now.
