Mangaluru: Residents from‘Ensure education facility till PU level in every GP’ a cross-section of society in Udupi district on Wednesday wanted enhanced quality in education, setting up of knowledge-based industries, food processing park and a government medical college included in the Vision 2025 document for the district.
At the same time, Udupi district in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj underlined the need for strengthening the revenue and local administration departments and empowering them through e-governance. These were the outcome of the one-day workshop held to elicit public opinion on the State government’s Vision 2025 in Udupi. Groups were formed on five broad topics and they discussed the issues in detail and came out with their recommendations.
In the education sector, participants wanted every gram panchayat to have education facility till PU level while urging the government not to grant permission to new private schools. Education till PU level should be made compulsory, the participants said. The group on health wanted a government medical college in the district while underlining the need for enhanced healthcare. Sex education should also be provided in schools, it added.
The process of commencing an industry should be simplified, said the group on industries, which also wanted setting up of new raw material-based industry in the district. Technology-based infrastructure should be provided for industries in Hebri, Perdur, Brahmavar and Byndoor, it said.
Demanding the setting up of a food processing park in the district, the group on agriculture also wanted fish processing industries to be established. The group on law and order wanted improved facilities and training to police personnel, and making policing people-friendly. Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Tushar Girinath, Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Sivanand Kapashi and others were present.
