Hebri : There is a need to ensure maximum use of Kannada in day to day life and promote the language which is struggling in its very own land, said Pundalika Halambi, President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
Speaking after inaugurating the Eighth District level Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Hebri on June 6, Thursday, Halambi said Kannada is facing problems despite a strong base in the literary field and despite being recognized as one of the 30 top languages of the world.
He also urged the government to implement recommendations of the Sarojini Mahishi Report which has been neglected by the state government. He also urged for reservation to Kannada medium students in professional colleges. Ambatanaya Mudradi, senior writer and former district sahitya parishat president, presided over the function and regretted the fact that English was overpowering Kannada. Literary conferences should work towards strengthening Kannada, he said.
