Bangalore: The warnings of CM Gowda given to PUC final exam answer scripts evaluating lecturers, have forced the striking teachers to call off the strike on April 16 and start work this morning.
By May 15, the results of PUC are expected to be out.
They however, urged the Education department to implement Kumar Naik Committee’s recommendations, to remove the anomalies in payments, to be made to evaluators.
They will return in full strength only on Wednesday, as some of them had gone back to native places, during the 4-day strike conducted to raise valuation allowances.
The strike was given up without any pre-conditions, announced Principals Union chief Srikante Gowda K.T. and Lecturers Association Chief Thimmaiah Purle, talking to reporters on April 16. They admitted to being tired out.
The PUC results were scheduled to be announced on April 26, but due to unforeseen results and delays, the results could appear in print in May before 15th About 80% answer scripts have to be taken up for evaluation from today, April 17.
The calling off, of such a harmful strike at a critical juncture, is a victory to CM Gowda’s government which was ready to suspend some of the irritant lecturers.
15,600 lecturers in 37 evaluation centres are resuming their work today, Rashmi, an education department spokespersons stated. The evaluators will not be overworked as each will handle only 24 papers daily, she clarified.
