Mangalore : The Mangalore City Corporation meeting held on November 30, Friday witnessed an interesting debate on plastic ban when some corporators including Deepak Poojari, Harinath and Shanker Bhat questioned whether polypropylene bags too come under the purview of plastic ban. They said even such bags are polymer products and must be banned.

Clarifying on the issue, MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar said  even polypropylene bags  are banned.

Another corporator Sudhir Shetty said even soft drink bottles, milk packets and water bottles must be banned. Yet another corporator said the plastic ban issue is used to harass shopkeepers on some occasions.

The issue of the proposed toll gate at Suratkal also came up for discussion and some corporators said no toll gate must be allowed within city limits. Even Mayor Gulzar Banu agreed with this and said the DC would be requested in this regard.
