Mangalore : Former minister B Janardhan Poojary, urged the government to implement the same system in temples coming under Endowment Department in the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara temple, Mangalore has appointed two women priests to perform religious rituals at the temple and temples need not wait for cabinet decision to bring changes in such revolutionary system.

It is learnt that, Janardhan Poojary had earlier appointed two widows-Lakshmi Shanthi from Bantwal Mooda and Indira Shanthi from Bannur in Puttur as priests at the temple during last Dasara. This year he has appointed two Dalit women priests- Lakshmi and Chandravathi to perform rituals inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Poojary also congratulated the CM and the Minister for nurturing such a developmental outlook and said that if the temples in the state decide to come forward and take this revolutionary step and this would be taken seriously and discussed with CM, he said.
