Mangalore: A man was arrested by the excise department on charges of smuggling liquor, near Suratkal Railway Station auto rickshaw stand on July 13, Friday.
The arrested is identified as Nagesh Naik alias Umesh (24), partner in crime with Narayanan alias Premjith, hailing from Kasargod in Kerala.
The accused were smuggling 2,250 sachets of liquor from Goa to Kerala. According to the excise department the duo were traveling by Konkan Railway on their way to Goa. But suddenly they changed their mind to get down at Suratkal Railway Station and deal with their activities.
As the excise police saw them carrying 2,250 sachets of Honey Guide Brandy in 9 bags, they arrested Umesh, while Premjith managed to flee from the spot.
Speaking on the occasion, Hoovappa Gowda, excise DC, said that the excise department has arrested Umesh and seized 2,250 sachets of liquor worth Rs. 30,000.
Inspector Vijaya Kumar, constables Chandrahas Shetty, Surendra, U. Umesh, and Jnandev, driver Raghuram, and SI M. Shivananda Gatti participated in the operation.
