Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, on Friday directed the officers to draw up an action plan for the 10 crore special package provided by the Ministry of Social Welfare for the welfare of the Koraga community and providing basic facilities to their colonies.
He was chairing the grievances redress meeting of the Koraga community at the Zilla Panchayat Hall, here.
Mr. Madhwaraj said that the works included in the action plan should be started immediately.
The package was announced when Minister for Social Welfare and Backward Classes, H. Anjaneya, had stayed at the Kalthodu village in Kundapur taluk on December 31, 2016.
He said that the State government had provided additional 3 crore for the community in the district. The action plan for this amount should be drawn up at the level of the Deputy Commissioner so that the works could be taken up soon, he said.
The leaders of the Koraga community complained that some private hospitals were collecting charges from them for treatment of their community members instead of the Department of Integrated Tribal Development Project.
Mr. Madhwaraj directed the District Health and Family Welfare Officer Rohini to send a circular to all private hospitals on this matter.
He also directed the officers of the Revenue Department to correct all the mistakes in the lands records of the members of the Koraga community by February 28 and provide title deeds to them.
