Kasaragod: Police had registered a case, of theft of Rs.84,000, that had taken place at Canara Bank ATM at Badiyadka on May 9th this year.
A service engineer was arrested for allegedly stealing money from the ATM’s around the locality. After initiating enquiry, the police did not suspect the ATM service engineer, according to the police superintendent Dr Srinivas.
Usually a key and digital password is used to open ATM machine in front of bank manager for service purposes. Vinod would memorize the password, then make a duplicate key and steal money from the ATM, and later he would also delete the video images. However later while interrogating Vinod confessed the theft. He also admitted that he had robbed Rs 2 lakh at SBT bank Hosadurga in June 2014 and Rs 50,000 at Kerala rural bank Udinoor in March this year. Initially the police did not suspect the service engineer Vinod was responsible for services of ATM machines in Kasaragod and Kannur districts.
The arrested service engineer has been identified as C G Vinod (25) from Kochi and the arrest has solved a mystery of thefts in the recent past.
