Mangalore : Senior advocate Hemalatha Mahishi released a joint fact finding report on the Morning Mist Homestay attack in Mangalore on November 18, Sunday. The report is the result of the efforts put in by the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Karnataka, and Forum Against Atrocities on Women (FAAW), Mangalore. The function was held under the joint auspices of the PUCL,FAAW and Alternative Law Forum, Bangalore.

In  her address, Hemalatha Mahishi said the homestay attack made everyone bow their heads in shame. She also regretted the fact Mangalore  has transformed into a place where communal policing was on the rise.

She also took a dig on the perpetrators of the homestay attack and added there was no way anyone can take law into their hands.She said these people would have dreaded to take law into hands,without political patronage. Mahishi further said the case against homestay attackers can become strong if the victims remain  strong

Varadesh Hiregange, Director of Manipal Institute of Communication said the mindset of people is to be blamed for such incidents. On the arrest of scribe Naveen Soorinje in the case, he said it was unjust to book the perpetrators of the attack and the media man under the same sections of IPC.

Member of the fact-finding committee Dr Sabiha Bhoomigowda, Aravind Narrain, Member of Alternative Law Forum, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, Gulabi Bilimale, Vidya Dinker and others were present.
