Udupi : In a case of alleged medical negligence, a young woman lost her life after she gave delivered a child a few days back.

The deceased was identified as Shruthi Suvarna (24). She got married to Sandeep three years back. Sandeep is employed in Bengaluru.

Shruthi was in her mother’s house and was admitted to Gandhi Hospital for delivery on June 6. Sources say that she was healthy and chatted with her husband during the day. However, she went into labour that night and Dr Chayalatha attempted a natural birth but when it did not work she opted for a C-section. In the meantime, Shruthi started heavy bleeding. She was then sent to KMC Manipal as her condition worsened. But nothing could be done to revive her and she breathed her last.

Shruthi’s parents have alleged that negligence on the part of Dr Chayalatha led to their daughter’s death.

The parents immediately held the last rites even before a postmortem was conducted and they also failed to register a complaint with the police. They have now realized their mistake and Shruthi’s husband has filed a complaint against the doctor.

However, Dr Chayalatha has claimed that Shruthi died due to heavy bleeding and not because of negligence.
