Mangalore : Farangipete witnessed flash protests on November 9, Friday morning after the severed head of a cow was noticed on a Katte built by the Bhajrangdal Chatrapathi Shivaji Shakhe, Kumdel.
Hundreds of people arrived at the spot as news spread like wild fire. The severed head of the cow was first noticed by Bharath, Shubhaker and Kishore who as usual had been to the katte to offer prayers on Friday morning. It is suspected that some miscreants placed it in a plastic bag the previous night.
Police rushed to the spot and tight security has been maintained. Police, reports said had to put in a great deal of efforts to bring the situation under control.
The protestors blocked highway and vehicular movement in Farangipete came to a standstill. The protestors demanded that those responsible for placing the severed head of the cow, should be immediately arrested.
Meanwhile, the protestors have warned that they would gherao the Bantwal police station if the culprits were not apprehended by 6 pm on Friday.
Several Hindu association leaders including Ashok Shetty Sarapady, Jeetendra Kottary, Sharan Pumpwell, Pradeep Pumpwell were part of the protest.
