Mangalore: The Bharathiya Kisan Sangh (Farmers’ Union), Dakshina Kannada District Branch and Organic farming Community of DK joined hands on Tuesday to submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and through him to the President of India against Endosulphan use in the country on the official approval of the Agriculture ministry of Government of India headed by Sharad Pawar as Union Minister. The communication sent to President demanded a complete ban on the pesticide called Endosulphan which brought diseases in states to children and grown-ups alike.
It may be noted that Endosulphan is banned in India for 8 weeks under Supreme Court orders, following protests in Kerala and Karnataka. The Endosulphan has reached a decisive stage.
The protest rally held at the gates of DC office on Tuesday morning was addressed by farmer Puttaswamy.
Puttaswamy informed his listeners that an international meeting held in Geneva had called for a world0wide ban on the dangerous chemical, Endosulphan. Strangely enough, the Indian Govt had sought eleven (11) years’ time to implement the banning decision, making it another 2GSpectrum scam in India. There is no need to wait for 11 years to ban such a dangerous drug, because by them the land and water in India would be totally contaminated by Endosulphan, he stated.
He was supported by others like Sundar Rao, Narayana Bhat, A.P Sadashiva and Sharavathi in their speeches to the gathering.
India produces 150 lakh litres of Endosulphan every year, there by becoming the second largest producer in the world. One cannot rest contests by driving it away but the pesticide has to be banned totally, the speakers stated. The memorandum was given to additional DC at the office on Tuesday.
