Udupi : Farmers are up in arms against the government for not initiating any step to prevent the menace of wild animals that has led to the destruction of crops. Under the aegis of the Bharathiya Kisan Sangha, they staged a protest against the government in front of the DC office on May 16, Wednesday at Manipal seeking some concrete action.
The speakers demanded early measures to stop the menace citing the Himachal Pradesh example where the government tried to control the monkey menace by setting up a monkey park.
Another demand placed forth was to provide permits to farmers to own weapons to protect their fields from wild animals.
Elendhooru Ranganath, State President of the Bharathiya Kisan Sangha, B K Ramesh, State General Secretary), Katapadi Shankar Poojari, President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Gopal Bhandari, Karkala MLA and others participated in the protest and addressed the gathering.
