Mangalore : Members of the Akhila Bharath Karmika Sangha(ABKS) who were on a fast unto death agitation in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office since the past eight days seeking solution to the several discrepancies and problems in the functioning of the ESI Hospital in Mangalore, ended their fast on May 9, Wednesday after the ESI Hospital Director Rehamaunnisa assured to consider their demand.
The director had arrived from Bangalore in order to end the deadlock arising out of the eight day long hunger strike of the ABKS members. During the meet held at the DC office, the ESI Director convinced the agitators that all their demands would be fulfilled.
Later, speaking to reporters, Sudatta Jain, State Secretary of the Sangha said they have faith in the officer who has assured to fulfill their demands.
He and other workers who were on a strike accepted tender coconut from the officer to end their stir.
This is the Sangha’s fifth protest in this regard since 2009. All the six who were on a hunger stir have been hospitalized.
