Mangalore: Senior Congress Leader B Janardhan Poojari has said that Foreign Direct Investment will be a great boon to India and regretted the opposition expressed to the same by BJP and other opposition parties.

Speaking to reporters in Mangalore on September 28, Friday, Poojari said  people in reality were unaware of the benefits of FDI. Giving one instance, he said the coconut growers who presently get Rs 6 to Rs 7 per coconut which is sold at a much higher price in the market, in the event of FDI will get a higher price and will be sold at a reasonable price beneficial both to the grower and the consumer.

Citing the instance of Lucknow, where Wallmart is operating he said it has had no impact on local business, Poojari said and added retail sector in India had great potential for development.

Congress leaders Vijaya Kumar Shetty, Kallige Taranath Shetty and Harikrishna Bantwal were also present  at the press meet.
