Dharmasthala: In the second phases of census operations, enumerators are going round lakhs of homes between Feb 9 and Feb 28. All the house-holders who speak Tulu at home, have been asked to ensure that Tulu is mentioned as their mother tongue in census documents. In a signed letter to all Tulu brothers, Dr.Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala has asked to mention Tulu as their home language to find out how many Tuluwas exist all over the country. Tulu is a minority language and need s protection from state in the form of basic facilities. Tuluwas can claim certain beneficial things under constitutional provisions, Dr.Heggade informed them. It would be patriotic of them to say they are Tuluwas, he added.
