Mangaluru: The federation of farmers’ associations in Dakshina Kannada district is demanding implementation of the M S Swaminathan Report, and is planning to stage a huge protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on January 3.
Hasiru Sene State Secretary Ravikiran Poonacha and The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha at a press meet told reporters here on Monday, December 31, that though the BJP has come to power five years ago following its assurance of implementing M S Swaminathan report, has done nothing so far.” As prices in market, is lesser than the production cost of crops, the government which should have fixed a support price on all the crops as failed to do so, though the report has mentioned so”, he said.
“The leaders of BJP including Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised that the farmers’ loans would be waived off and all necessary measures would be taken to provide proper price to their crops. However, instead of favouring the farmers, the union government has been appeasing the corporate companies. If the government does not meet the demands of the farmers, BJP would be taught a befitting lesson by us in the next Lok Sabha election”, said, RaviKiran, pointing out to the assurances that were given by BJP prior to the Lok Sabha elections of 2014.
Leaders of various assocation of farmers’, Yadav Shetty, Manohar Shetty, K Krishnappa Salian, Shekh Abdullah, Vasudev Uchil among others were present.
