Mangalore : As per the call for strike from the Film Federation of India (FFI), against the government’s decision to increase the service tax on movie tickets, the Mangalore film theaters also rendered the wide support by not showcasing the films in theatre on Feb 23, Thursday.
Reportedly, all theatres in the state will remain closed and all activity pertaining to the film industry including the film shooting will come to a standstill on the day.
The FFI has called for a day strike since the service tax will directly affect the public. In addition to the ticket rate they will have to pay service tax on each ticket. The extra amount payable by the audience will be decided according to the service tax calculated and public is burdened with the additional taxation.
The film theatres in city like Jyothi, Prabhat, Suchitra, New Chitra, Central, Srinivas, Roopavani, Ramakanthi remained closed and also placed the board of cancellation of film show for a day.
But in spite of these supports from the various theatres, the Adlabs at Bharath Mall was seen issuing the film tickets for the public and continuing their shows. Many students were standing in the ‘Queue’ to watch the movies like ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu; starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor and other.
