Mangalore: The member students of ABVP, took out a procession in shock and distress on Monday, June from the University College campus at Hampankatta to DC’s office near SBI, and submitted a communication to DC to hold a monthly meeting of all bus conductors and check up their bio-data, and look into their criminal tendencies of the past, to prevent further tragedies in college campus or among students anymore.
A final year B.Com student of the University, described as brave and silent by her classmate, had committed suicide o Sunday, registered as a case of “unnatural death” by Kadri police.
The deceased girl lived in Barebail at Yeyyadi, just outside the port city. The death was condoled by students and teachers of the college at the campus on Monday.
It is said that a black faced conductor had had made sexual advances by eve-teasing harassment during regular bus journeys. Shed id not complain to her teachers on her personal persons, nor undergo any wise counseling on the worries she had. Saritha, the student coming of age around 20, self-immolated on Sunday at her residence. The body has been sent for post-mortem and report will take 10 days. It is clear if she was raped by a man, to commit suicide.
The Principal of the College, HRN Bhatta at the condolence meeting in the campus revealed that the student could have held counseling with a group of teachers at the college, to get over her personal problems, financial, emotional or otherwise. The dead girl did not give a written complaint, which could have been examined by the college authorities. He advised all youth in the age group of 15-25, not to get bogged down by emotions all the time, or seek revenge or death.
They need to face the incidents of life with courage and self-belief, he added.
The conductor, who had harassed Saritha with 4 other associates in eve-teasing, has not been arrested, despite the death of the girl. He saw her; it is alleged, on Saturday for the last time.
