Udupi: Udupi district Fire Service officer Shivappa Gowda, addressing a fire fighting training camp organised by Humanitarian Relief Society (HRS) at a Muslim centre, stated that fire is a double edged weapon which is useful and harmful if misused, as well. He asked people to learn how to protect during mishaps, lives and property under emergency when fire strikes.
He explained safe methods of using LPG cylinders to the participants. He also dwelt on precautionary measures to be taken to avoid accidents. He asked people to change the cylinder pipes once a year and turn off gas when it is not used. If gas leaks from a cylinder, no electric devices, mobile phones and torches could be used. Water which can absorb gas, has to be used in such leak situations. He spoke on several cases of fire and extinguishing ways.
