Bengaluru: A resident in Bengaluru who recently travelled from the United States to India has tested positive for novel coronavirus, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar told media on Monday.
The minister also informed that all primary schools in Bengaluru’s areas with IT companies have been shut until further orders.
The man and his family are being kept in the isolation ward of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) in Bengaluru.
The patient came to India aboard an Emirates flight from Dubai to Bengaluru on March 1. As per the government statement, earlier he had been to Austin in the US, then New York and from there he went to Dubai before returning to India.
As per the statement, the patient developed symptoms on March 4 and a day later he sought medical treatment at an OPD, but he was admitted to RGICD on March 8.
The government has said that it has tracked the patient’s movements and the people he came in touch with since his return. “We have collected the data of 2,666 people who came in contact with the positive patient directly or indirectly. They are being contacted. The patient is fine and is most likely to recover,” Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said.
Novel coronavirus or Covid-19 has affected at least 43 people in India. Three people, all from Kerala, are now fine and have been discharged from the hospital.
