South Africa: The first Test between touring Team-India and hosts South Africa, ended in a 1-0 victory to the latter here on the morning of 5 day Test.
India were all out for 459 runs, losing the match by an innings and 25 runs. Tendulkar remained unbeaten on 111, his historic 50th Test Century. He is 46 centuries old in ODI games, but has proved Wisden forecast long back to come true on Sunday. (Dec. 19).
Only 5 runs were added to Sunday’s Indian total of 454 for 8 on Monday to end the Test so early. Dale Steyn and Morne Markel finished their jobs well to deflate World no.1 team in South Africa. India could lose the rank now.
While Indians allowed 4 centuries (one of them a double ton, 201 by Jack Kallis), South Africans subdued India in the first innings for less than 150 runs and hit over 600 runs, to impose a follow on.
Of course, India made over 450 runs in the second innings, but that was not enough. Their bowlers had failed and if 2 days were more to it, they would not have bowled out this fine team of SA host. Indian middle batting collapsed on two occasions to serve them right, a sick feeling.
