Mangalore: An invitation has gone out to all Konkani speaking people and Konkani cultural events lovers to participate in a 25 days extravaganza in Mangalore at Shaktinagar Kalangann (Bus route no. 6 – stop Gudi) from Nov. 25 to Dec.20 in the evenings. The main function is organised on Dec.9th when President of India, Ms Pratibha D. Patil will grace the programme, specially prepared and held at the Nehru Maidan grounds at 11 am when 25 Konkani institutions picked all over the world for their services to Konkani will be given Convention Awards by the President.
Maand Sobhann team is organizing the Event. Vishwa Konkani Foundation, also in Shaktinagar at Konkangaon (1km. away) is one of the awardees, as also the Canara Union of Bangalore and Konkani Bhasha Mandal of Goa. About 10,000 delegates are expected to attend from all over the world, as from Australia, Arabian Gulf, Brazil, Europe, UK, USA and several other countries.
A procession will be taken out from Kulashekhar to Kalaangann on Thursday, Nov.25 at 5 pm and the regular programmes in Arts and Culture will begin at 7pm in Shaktinagar auditorium.
CM Yeddyurappa, Law Minister Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, DK incharge Minister Krishna Palemar, Bishop of Mangalore, Rev. Fr. A. Paul D’souza, Konkani Language Foundation chief Dr. P. Dayananda Pai, Reception Committee chief Ronald Colaco will participate in the 25-day festival of fine arts and Union of Konkani people.
The procession on 25th Nov. in the afternoon at Kulshekhar, will have folk artistes and Tableaus, Bands of music, over 50 in all. Songs and dances from Goa are on view today.
