Mangalore: Inland fishing in local ponds and pools, can produce delicious and clean fish stocks, for local consumption and public marketing on the west coast and interior lands for farmers and the yield of incomes would be high said Monappa Karkera in city on Tuesday. The Administrative Council member of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Science University on the West Coast (Karkera) was speaking as a chief guest, in a 2-day training camp started on Monday at the city’s fisheries’ college on “Fish rearing in our Backyards” for farmers.
Such methods of rearing fish in one’s own land in pools / ponds is useful for daily needs, he said, adding that everyday about 4 tons of fish are sold in the market in the rainy season. Assistant director of fisheries dept, Parshwanath echoed these sentiments.
