Mangalore: About 10 markets for fish sales were coming up on Karnataka coast soon is various towns, and two at Kinnigoli and Bantwal were among them. CM Sadananda Gowda has laid their foundation stones on Wednesday.
The state was giving a high priority to Fisheries and the fish markets will have all modern facilities for sellers. An inland water area of 6 lakh hectares and 300 kms long coast are there for development of fisheries, with state help. Koderi (Fishing) Port is a Rs.30 crore project, and Rs.10 crores are released to begin its construction. Rs. 3 crore are spent on a retention wall at Gangolli port, he said.
The third phase of Mangalore Old port (Bunder) has begun with a Rs.57.50 crores cost. 2000 houses will be distributed among fishermen under the Masty ashraya scheme, CM informed.
B. Nagaraj Shetty welcomed the CM and spoke about fish markets planned in 10 areas. Krishna Palemar was present, along with local MP/MLAs.
