Udupi: The fishermen of Hejamady have expressed their satisfaction over the blue print of the Hejamady Kodi Fisheries Harbour project, prepared by the Coastal Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery (CICEF). The blue print will now be sent to the government for approval.
The Institute had prepared the blue print after an intensive survey in Hejamady area over a period of three months.
As per the blue print, 12.38 hectares of land out of the total 30 hectares available, will be used for the harbor project. There is a proposal to construct brake waters measuring 400 meters and 470 meters with a depth of 120 meters. The harbor will be 670 meter long and 180 meter wide.As per the proposal the harbor will be equipped with modern facilities and will have four jetties of varying sizes.
The proposed harbor will also have a ice plant, fish auction spot, workshop and boat building yard.
CICEF Director Dr Betageri said all out efforts would be made to build the Project at a minimum cost. He said the blue print would be sent to the government and the various departments concerned for their approval. Clearance will also be sought from the environmental department. The project report will be ready within 4-5 months, informed Suresh Kumar, Deputy Director of the Department of Ports. The new project is estimated to cost around Rs. 150 crores out of which Rs 100 crores is required for the construction of the breakwater.
