Mangaluru: The Indian Coast Guard rescued a fishing boat in distress with 25 crew on board near Karwar on Thursday.
According to a press release by Karnataka headquarters of the Indian Coast Guard here, the boat ‘Yashwardhan’ reported hull damage and flooding at 1.30 p.m.
The boat was at 10 nautical miles from Karwar, off Loliem Pt (Polen) on Karnataka and Goa border.
An Indian Coast Guard ship based at Karwar on routine security patrol was immediately diverted to help the boat. After reaching it, 17 crew members were taken on board the coast guard ship. Five crew members of the coast guard ship joined the remaining crew of the fishing boat for de-flooding.
Later, another fishing boat named Amrutha towed the boat to Karwar harbour at about 4.45 p.m., the release said.
