Udupi: A youth distraught with financial hardships committed suicide by hanging himself in an anchored boat in Malpe port on Wednesday, June 10.

The deceased has been identified as Bhagyaraj(27), a resident of Paonji Hill near Tottam.

He is alleged to have taken loans for his fishing boat and a house and due to loss in his business committed suicide by hanging himself in a boat anchored in the harbour.

Bhagyaraj was a Kabaddi player. He went out of his house at 11 pm on Tuesday and later ended his life in the boat, the police said. A report about this unnatural death was filed at Malpe police station.

Malpe police station personnel visited the spot and investigated.
