Mangalore : Addressing at the press meet held at BJP Office on Aug 20, Wednesday, B Nagaraj Shetty convener of DK district BJP election campaign committee urged state government to provide compensation to the areca growers who has incurred loss to due to heavy rain.

He also said that people of Tulunad and Malenad highly depends on areca farming and the spread of Yellow leaf disease to areca nut has spread even to its root destroying 50-60% of arecanuts in the continuous rain lashed in three months.

The district BJP will form a Horata Samithi comprising of 5 district including Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chichickmagalur and Shimoga under the leadership of former CM Sadananda Gowda and vice president Eshwarappa will hold a meeting at Shimoga on August 25 to provide justice to areca growers.

He urged the state government to recommend and implement Gorak Singh report immediately in the state which will benefit the areca farmers.
