Bangalore : The Bangalore police have been successful in apprehending five of the accused wanted in connection with the recent looting of cash of Rs 1.91 crore from ATM cash loaders in the city after threatening the security personnel at RT Nagar. Of the five two, are from Dakshina Kannada district. This was informed by Bangalore Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji at a press meet on Thursday.
The police have seized Rs 32.15 lakhs in cash, jewellery worth Rs 3 lakhs, car used for the dacoity and a rifle from the accused, al valued at Rs 50 lakhs. The arrested are Jayaprakash (30) and Santosh (37) hailing from DK, Ahmed Sheikh from Mumbai (26), Karunaker(26) of Hassan, Ravikanth Poojari and Mahesh of Kodagu.
Mirji informed that special teams had been formed to investigate the case and the teams had been to Chennai, Hyderabad, Gujarat, and Mumbai for probe as there were no vital evidences as the looters had covered their faces.
Mirji said seven to eight more persons were behind the robbery and they would shortly be arrested. He also informed that two of the accused Jayaprakash and Santosh had hidden their share of the booty in a TV carton in the attic of their house at Beltangady.
Police also informed that all the accused had come to know each other when they were lodged in the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai in connection with several dacoities in various parts of the nation. They remained in touch even after coming out on bail and were meeting often.
Mirji said of the accused Mahesh was involved in a similar dacoity in Mulki while the rest are facing cases of dacoity and looting in Mumbai and other police stations. The court has remanded the accused to police custody till June 20.
