Mangaluru: Mangalore University has decided to take a regular update of students’ attendance starting from the next semester. Accordingly, a flying squad from the University will visit colleges randomly and check attendance every month.
Vice Chancellor Professor K Byrappa said that students required minimum 75% attendance to answer the exams. He added that some colleges took heavy fines from students to give them attendance so that they would be able to answer exams.
Meanwhile, authorities at the University also noted that the schedule of internal assessment exams hampered students from taking part in inter-college sports and cultural programmes and thus the University would announce a uniform system for internal exams which would be implemented from the next semester. The officials will also conduct a random check on valuation of internal exam answer scripts; this will be done in autonomous colleges too.
