Shivamogga : A 54-year-old government food inspector facing charges in an alleged land-allotment case committed suicide by jumping into Tunga river between Shivamogga and Tirthahalli taluk.
ID Dattatreya was working as a village accountant and revenue inspector in Shivamogga district’s Hosanagar taluk until he was transferred to the food and civil supplies department this year.
The body was recovered from near a bridge that borders Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts.
His wife Anasuya claimed he left a note accusing seven persons, including a KAS officer working as a tahsildar, of harassing him in the land scam. Police couldn’t confirm the recovery of the suicide note yet.
Sources said Dattatreya, as revenue inspector in Hosanagar, allegedly doctored documents and allotted revenue land in 2003. The woman alleged the tahsildar “forced my husband to work without leave or salary, though he was to retire in a few years. Other litigants, too, allegedly pressured him to opt for a monetary payment to settle the land-allotment case”.
