Mangalore: The CITU-led roadside vendors activists in the port city caused road blockade for 15 minutes for Friday morning in Hampankatta near the University college, and traffic got disrupted, as hundreds of poor tradesmen/women faced the police in disruption, holding red flags and shouting slogan against a heartless MCC administration. Vendors were evicted from Central Market region and SBI areas. CITU leaders Sunil Kumar Bajal, Vasanth Achary and others were arrested and later released.
An indefinite hunger strike is brewing from Saturday, May 28 on MG Road, opposite MCC, Bajal informed. Over 200 vendors were in turmoil having lost means of livelihood, and they would hit the streets tomorrow, he warned.
