Sullia : A baby elephant aged around two years, which got separated from the herd of elephants that was roaming in Mandekolu of Sullia has been rescued and is presently in the custody of the Forest Department.
Wild elephants have been roaming in Mandekolu region since some days and has been damaging crops. On Thursday night, the elephants were spotted in Kanyana. On Friday morning, a baby elephant which got separated from the herd was spotted in the plantation of Rajashekhar Bhat of Kanyana. Forest officials who rushed to the spot have taken custody of the baby elephant and are presently making efforts to reunite it with its mother.
Dr Yashaswi, wildlife veterinarian, Dr Nithin Prabhu, Assistant Director of Veterinary Department of Sullia are taking care of the baby elephant.
In April 2022 a baby elephant was separated from its group and was later shifted to Dubare where it had died.
