Mangalore: It is sad but true, that the former IGP of Western Range has decided to return his honorary doctorate degree conferred on him, by Mangalore University this year, following a sarcastic remark made by chancellor and state Governor, H.R.Bhardwaj.

Ajay Kumar Singh had been repeatedly approached by senate members and the V-C of Mangalore University, without asking for it and agreeing to take it only after 2 months of persuasion.

It may be noted that Governor Bharduraj had written to the Government to promote his Own ADC, K.C.V. Mane to the rank of IPS, but Ajay and Achyutha Rao(present DGP-IGP) wrote back to say that the police rules did not permit such a promotion for Mane. The angry Governor criticised both Ajay Singh and N. Achyutha Rao, for their decision.

This favouritism has landed Bhardwaj in hot waters, in political circles, of seeking favours to his aide.
